This weeks workout is a main set of 4x5 hex bar deadlift at 75% of 1 rep max followed by 3 minute row on the erg at 7/10 perceived level of exertion. This workouts goal is meant to increase run strength, build durability in muscles around the knees as well as increase stamina in fast twitch muscle fibers. The 5 reps of heavy hex bar deadlift activates the most muscle fibers in the legs of any compound movement, coupling that with 3 minutes of rowing will increase those specific fibers to increase their tolerance to longer duration events. Race specific to simulating steep climbs uphill on a bike or microbursts in running where those fast twitch muscle fibers are being pushed to the max, our goal is to make them last longer.
